Eagle Harbor Breach (Michael’s Cut) – Beach Nourishment and Dune Restoration Successfully Completed
MRD has completed beach nourishment and dune restoration within the T.H. Stone Memorial State Park on St. Joseph Peninsula, Gulf County, Florida to close Michael's Cut. Manson Construction, utilizing the hopper dredge Glenn Edwards, completed the work in under 10 days using sand dredged from an offshore borrow source. Category 5 Hurricane Michael bisected the peninsula within the park and opened a new inlet. MRD managed all aspects of the project including permitting, design, and construction monitoring. The firm is currently assisting the Florida Park Service with post-construction services within T.H. Stone Memorial State Park. The Service, with help from Dewberry Engineers, is planning to rebuild the access road and open the campground facilities and cabins damaged during Hurricane Michael. Aerial drone footage of the breach immediately post-storm can be accessed on the DRMP Disaster Response Youtube page and Pre- and Post-Construction aerial footage of the beach nourishment and dune restoration can be found on MRD’s Youtube Page.
