The Wharf Marina
MRD Associates, Inc. was retained by AIG Baker Real Estate, LLC to provide marina consulting services for the development of their waterfront to compliment the 220-acre resort. The Wharf is the Gulf Coast’s premier destination resort and marina featuring luxury waterfront condominiums, superior resort amenities including the 18-Championship hole Golf Club of The Wharf. The marina provides boaters a gateway to this residential, retail, and entertainment node serving coastal Alabama.
MRD completed the analysis, design and preparation of the Construction Drawings, Specifications and Contract Documents within three months of commencement in order to meet AIG Baker’s aggressive schedule to open the facility in the fall of 2005. The marina facility design consisted of the excavation of approximately 372,000 cubic yards of material from the uplands to create a marina basin to support a 210-slip docking facility. The full service marina combines fixed and floating dock systems to provide permanent slips for the associated condominium residents and as well as temporary mooring for transient vessels traveling the Intracoastal Waterway. The slips range in size from 28 to 70 feet in length, and the 1,240 linear feet of alongside mooring with quad 100 amp electric that can support mega-yachts up to 200+ feet in length. A floating breakwater protects the interior marina basin from boat wakes generated from passing vessels.
Surveying, landscape architecture, environmental assessment, civil engineering and daily construction administration services (along with support from MRD) were provided by Volkert, Inc., of Foley, Alabama.
